Face-to-face discussions were held to build co-produced performances and collaborative relationships, centered on the start of the Esplanade & Suntory Hall Global Creative Collaboration Project and coordination activities of related organizations in preparation for 2016. A theatrical concert “HIMIKO” (created by Suntory Hall) was decided for the Esplanade-staged Japan Festival in May, 2016, and the structure for production and advertising cooperation was formed. Additionally, as a platform to develop and introduce young musicians from both countries, a joint workshop between the NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and the Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy, as well as a performance by the Esplanade and Suntory Hall were held. Furthermore, a master class was held by cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi at the NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, and a promotional event was held in Singapore for the Japan Festival, which celebrates 50 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Singapore.

From the Organizer

The basis was formed to prepare for performance of “HIMIKO” in May, 2016 at Super Japan, which celebrates 50 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Singapore. In March 2016, cellist and director of Suntory Hall Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi travelled to Singapore with the Suntory Hall Global Project Team, received interviews from both the local and Japanese media, and gained major exposure. We also held publicity events with the local Japanese society atthe former parliament building, leading to a rise in local awareness of “HIMIKO.” Additionally, Tsutsumi held a master class at the NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, strengthening connections between Suntory Hall and the university. Thanks to this grant, we were able to travel to Singapore, and meet directly while pursuing the same goals, achieving true international exchange.
