This project is to bring students of Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), National University of Singapore, and provide them opportunities to learn Japan’s policy challenges and cultural specialty and to discuss and exchange opinions with Japan’s key stakeholders with respect to these fields. In the 8th project, we selected security policy, industrial policy, and culture and city planning policy as key themes that participants should work on, and concerning these, we chose 4 historically important cities – Kyoto, Hiroshima, Kamakura and Tokyo – to visit. During the trip, we visited governmental organizations, companies, as well as universities and had deep discussion with them. Through such activities, the participants were able to see the entire view of Japan’s historical effort on culture and industry. In the end of the trip, the participants made policy recommendations through presentation and discussion with students and professors of University of Tokyo.

From the Organizer

This project is to provide opportunities of learning about Japan to students of LKYSPP, who are expected to be leaders of all around the world and let them make a policy recommendation. In this regard, we gave participants chances to meet important stakeholders in Japan and to experience Japan’s tourism resources and got their constructive policy recommendations based on their experience in Japan, which we think is quite significant. Especially, most of the participants are from developing countries or in younger generation, thus considering the budget restraint, without the chance of Japan Study Trip, it would be difficult for them to visit Japan. Therefore, we think the grant from Japan Foundation has significant importance.
