Research and networking toward the realization of an opera project, connecting memories of disaster: Creating music of the Earth’s citizens in collaboration with disaster-struck communities across Asia
Tomoko Momiyama visited disaster-struck areas in Indonesia and the Philippines to learn about community-based post-disaster recovery efforts and disaster-prevention initiatives. At the same time, she met and exchanged with artists, who have worked with communities affected by disasters in each country, to share ideas and concerns about the potentials as well as the dangers of working with the issues around disaster in art practices. Momiyama networked with people from different disciplines and various stakeholders to build a foundation necessary for realizing a music project that weaves the memories of disaster together across local boundaries.
