新型コロナウィルス感染症による、長期の外出禁止に苦しむフィリピンの人々のために何かできる取り組みはないだろうかという思いから、この切り絵ワークショップの企画が始まった。フィリピン現地では、外出が長期間制限されていることから、学校や仕事に行けず、生活に対する不安やストレスを感じている方が多くいるという現状があった。この切り絵ワークショップには、その気持ちを少しでも緩和してもらうために、自身を自由に表現するアートワークによって心に小さなゆとりや癒しを持ってもらいたいという願いが込められている。
「Zoom（ズーム）」を活用した「オンラインワークショップ」の開催を試みたところ、多くの人々から参加希望があり、ワークショップを通じて、生活していく上での不安や思い、人生に対する考え方の変化など、様々な心の声が寄せられた。
切り絵とはあらかじめ描いた下絵をもう一枚の紙に固定し、不要な部分を切り抜き、絵をつくりあげていく伝統的な絵画の手法の一つであるが、仕上げに色鉛筆や色画用紙を使うなど、少しの工夫やアイデア次第で誰でも自分だけの作品を作ることが出来る。身近な材料や、道具で行うことができ、さらにワークショップを開催することで一つの作品を作り上げる達成感を感じてもらうことができた。
また、参加者とともに一体感のある創作活動の場を設けることで、前向きな気持ちや自身を見つめ直すきっかけを提供することができた。
今回、この企画を通して、予想を上回る、80名の参加と、247点の作品が集まった。どの作品もオリジナリティがあり、一つ一つの作品にはそれぞれの思いが込められている。
The idea for this paper-cutting workshop started when we asked ourselves what we could do for the Filipino people, who were under a prolonged lockdown due to the COVID-19. Due to mobility restrictions, many people were unable to go to school or work, filling their lives with anxiety and stress. To help them overcome that difficult time, we hoped that, through artistic creation, they could express themselves freely, giving them peace of mind and mental stability.
Kirie is one of the traditional Japanese techniques, in which a pre-drawn sketch is attached to another sheet of paper, then unnecessary parts are cut out, and the voids create an image. Crayons or colored papers are used to complement the final composition. With little imagination and creativity, anyone can create art with materials and tools that they use every day.
By conducting a workshop we made it possible to give them a feeling of self-accomplishment by creating a piece of art and providing a virtual place for meeting other people and engage in creative activities.
The workshop gathered 80 participants, which exceeded our expectations, and 247 works were collected, each one of them expressing the feeling of its creator uniquely and originally.

本企画では、私たちの想定を大きく上回る80名の参加者、そして、247点の作品が集まったのだが、それ以上に嬉しかったことは、ワークショップ後に参加者から寄せられたコメントであった。本事業が必要とされている人のところにきちんと届き、支援できたことに達成感を感じた。このような機会を得られ、ワークショップを行えたことを国際交流基金アジアセンターに感謝したい。
The high participation (80 persons and 247 works) and the quality works exceeded our expectations. But what has satisfied us most is, after hearing the comments of the participants, that the project has achieved its objective.
