Through civic engagement, and taking cognizance of the region’s rich and unique heritage, wisdom, and knowledge, the project aims to promote strategic and participatory processes that are at the core of transformative learning in addressing societal issues to achieve a just and ecologically sustainable ASEAN community.
In its first phase (Year 1), the project organized a regional workshop to present cases, empirical evidences and action models of selected countries, on how civic engagement has made a difference in developing effective policies and/or succeeded in facilitating implementation of them that demonstrate sustainability. This process involved cross-country and cross-sectorial participants of outstanding civic engagement leaders of the region. As a result, it contributed to a creation of a modest but a unique regional platform for civic engagement/transformative learning. The Workshop confirmed commitments from the participants for a synthesis report in English which will be disseminated to target audiences in the region.
