Based on the lost love of Thai prostitutes and former Self-Defense Force officers, from the Japanese communities of Bangkok that surround them, we will travel to Isan and further north to Laos, depicting the scars of the Vietnam War. With partners in both countries, Japanese cast and staff, and French staff, we will create a feature film, using a great deal of people living in Thailand and Laos as actors. Once the film is complete, it will be shown at film festivals around the world, and be shown in theaters in Japan, France, and other countries. The project is one in which the film’s subject of Asian history, as well as coexistence between cultures of Asia and the world as a whole are examined through diverse mediums such as film, music, and art installations. It is an international coproduction between Japan, France, Thailand, and Laos.

From the Organizer

Upon its theatrical release in Japan, the film gained high praise from the major media and gathered attention. It won the young judge’s and best picture awards at the Locarno International Film Festival, and go on to have the film shown at festivals worldwide. This film was truly made possible because of the grant. By filming for 3 months, we were given abundant time to set up and hold discussions among the cast while filming. Thanks to this, we have been able to add depth to the work, and create a film that surpasses the boundaries of Japanese films up to this point. We plan to continue our activities having the film shown in Asian countries and around the world.
