The Wathann Film Festival (WFF) is the most important film festival for Myanmar independent filmmakers. Our main program is the local film competition which aims to promote the Myanmar filmmakers and their works. In 216, it extended a new program for South East Asia (SEA) Documentary Film Competition and WFF brought the best of SEA films to Myanmar. S-express program was the film screening program which was curated by SEA film curators. Together with the films, we invited the SEA filmmakers to the festival and discuss on after the screening and networking party was held. It created the networking space for filmmakers from Myanmar and SEA. We had total of 4,117 audiences this year.
WFF also organized an animation workshop in Yangon and had about 30 participants. This workshop was intended for animation and storytelling. 10 groups with three participants each created a story and produced animated audio visual storyboards. It was the first experience to make the story with audio and visual elements.
After the festival, we travelled to Mandalay, Myitkyina and Taunggyi for travelling cinema program. We had about 310 audiences in Mandalay, about 200 in Myitkyina and about 300 in Taunggyi.
