A joint contemporary dance production by artists in Japan and South East Asia. A total of five choreographers, dancers and musicians from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Japan were selected and invited to Fukuoka. "LINKAGE", the result of a one-week production produced in collaboration with a local dancer and a performer of the traditional instrument of Fukuoka called the "Chikuzen-Biwa", which is a type of a short-necked fretted lute, was performed at the Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival. We also held workshops for students and workshops for local dancers in conjunction with this event. In addition to this, we conducted a seminar on dance in Indonesia.

From the Organizer
・Creating this joint production for dance artists from South East Asia – a rare opportunity for Fukuoka – opened up new avenues for dialogue, exchange and networking. ・Collaborating with other programs implemented by this NPO (i.e., the Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival) to perform this production at the festival made for an effective means of promoting and raising awareness of the kind of work we perform, and the significance of this work. ・This production received a warm reception from the audience in attendance, receiving the festival’s “Audience Award”. ・The workshops held gave local performers and students an opportunity to improve their skills by learning new techniques and ideas, together with new creative approaches. The seminar held also gave people, who would otherwise have a limited connection to South East Asian contemporary dance, an opportunity to learn more about this topic, and to exchange information.
